#1 Facebook Unfollow: Helping Users to See the Content they Like

Author: Jon Loomer, Jon Loomer Digital

Why read this article?

Earlier this month Facebook launched a new feature that will help users to see the content they like in their Newsfeeds’. They can do this by ‘unfollowing’ or ‘seeing less’ of the Friends, Pages and Groups that clutter their newsfeeds.

What’s the PULSE on This?

    • o
    • By unfollowing a Page, Person or Group users will no longer see content from those sources in the newsfeed, but will still like the Page, remain part of the Group, and be Facebook Friends with the person.

o

    • Some marketers reacted angrily to this functionality but Facebook continues to prioritise User Experience over the organic reach aspirations of brands.

o

    • Facebook content must be filtered or Newsfeeds will become cluttered and unappealing to users.

o

    • We have always said that the quality of your fans is much more important than the quantity. Organic Reach is only one metric, it should not define the success of your Facebook marketing strategy any more than number of likes should.

o

  • Pay attention to the frequency of your posts in the coming weeks to measure the impact of this functionality.
